How An Accident can wake us up
Last Sunday evening the phone held a message for me from the Bellingham Police. It was one of those "parents worst nightmare" moments. My daughter had been found, unconscious, on the street, with her bicycle and belongings tossed around her. After two long nights at St Josephs hospital, she was released and has been recuperating at home. She was not wearing a helmet and suffered quite a blow to her head. We will never know what happened (she has no memory of the accident) but we know this: an accident is an opportunity to wake up to continual awareness. One false move and it can all be over. We must be like a cat, relaxed, but ready to spring into action should the need arise.
Can Yoga Help with Depression & Anxiety?
Betsy Loving says YES!
Many of us are feeling challenged by our lives and the state of the world around us. While most yoga classes can help with reducing the stress reaction, a new class at Movement Arts will tackle the symptoms of depression and anxiety with specific practices and techniques. Mondays from 5:45-6;45 pm, starts January 25. All are welcome and the practices are designed to be done by anyone, no matter what shape you are in. For registration or more information, see the webpage.
Survey Results
Thank you to everyone who answered the survey regarding yoga retreats. The clear majority prefers a smaller, more eco-friendly and off-the-grid type of place for a Hawaii retreat. Due to time constraints, we have decided to postpone this idea to 2011, and will keep you posted on any plans for a Maui retreat.

Ballet Class Canceled
The teacher who was scheduled to teach our new ballet class has decided not to go forward with the class, so for now we are canceling.
However, if you are interested in taking ballet, let us know and we will keep you posted on any future classes.
Kundalini Yoga Workshop February 6, 2010, Saturday
Karen Guzak, the owner of Yoga Circle Studio in Snohomish and the new Mayor of Snohomish, will be teaching Kundalini yoga practices at a workshop on Saturday, February 6, from 1-3 pm.
Karen, who turned 70 in 2009, is one of the most energetic and dynamic people I have met. To learn the secret of this amazing energy, come and experience Kundalini yoga with Karen on February 6. The workshop is open to all levels, including beginners. Please email us to make a reservation in the workshop, then you can make payment on the day of the class.
Bucky at the Barn
A sixteen-year-old one-eared cat meets and greets students each day
Sixteen years ago, while searching a local shelter for barn cats, I found a scrawny orange kitten in a cage. He was super funny to look at because he only had one ear. He was impossible to resist and has been hanging out at the farm ever since. Most of his life he has been an outdoor cat (he wont even step a paw in the house!) but recently he has enjoyed his kitty condo in the garage, complete with a heated blanket. The next time you come to the barn for class, don't forget to give Bucky a pet...he loves attention!
We currently have openings in all classes for new students--just show up prior to the class of your choice to register.
