Yoga for Beginners


This class offers instruction for beginners and covers concepts such as: conscious breathing, body awareness, positioning and proper alignment and form. We begin by learning how to connect with prana (life energy) through the breath. Opening sequence, sun salutations, standing postures (asana), balances, seated postures, and rest and relaxation are all a part of the instruction. After a period of time (which depends on the individual) the student can participate in the next level, the Naga yoga practice class. Private lessons are also available for those who appreciate one on one attention. No prior experience necessary. Yoga mats are available for sale on the first day of class. *Bare feet, loose or stretchy clothing, Yoga sticky mat required (available at the school).

Yoga Practice for all Levels

Naga Yoga is a mindful practice that opens with conscious breathing and Pilates-like core strengthening, continues with a yoga flow, and ends with deep relaxation. This moderate practice is accessible to all ages and skill levels. Students of yoga report positive changes in physical, mental, and spiritual health and well-being.

Practice classes are on-going. Please pay at the studio. Monthly memberships are available. See the fees page for details.

Yoga Classes on Camano Island in 2008

In 2008 join us for Morning and Evening Yoga at the Camano Island Senior/Community Center. Classes are offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and Wednesday evenings. The Center is a beautiful facility.

Pilates / Yoga Fusion

Instructor Vicki Morrow takes the best of both worlds; Pilates core strengthening and the flexibility/relaxation aspects of yoga and brings them together in this Fusion class. At the end of the hour students feel longer, taller, more toned and relaxed. This is an excellent class for anyone, no matter what shape you are in. Pilates and Yoga are, by nature, a mindful way to exercise that is easy on the joints. Fine for beginners and the more experienced as well.

Belly Dance for Beginners

Celebrate the feminine. Egyptian style belly dance uses isolations, undulations, layering and many other beautiful ancient dance movements. An additional benefit is toning and firming of the abdomen, hips and thighs. Belly dance honors the female body in all of its various shapes and sizes. Dance experience is not necessary to enjoy a belly dance class.

Tahitian Dance for Women

Study the beautiful art of Tahitian dance, taught by a descendant of Tahitian Royalty. Tie on a Pareo/Sarong (Natali will show you how) and join in for a session of dance that is great for the waist, hips, and thighs. Learn how to move more gracefully, and enjoy the fun of moving to the rhythms of the Pacific Islands. Tahitian Dance honors women of all ages, shapes and sizes.

Jazz Dance / Harbinger Dance Company

This technique is the “yoga of dance.” The 45 minute series of warm-ups create a strong, flexible and centered physique. The technique is accessible to anyone from professional dancers to young teens, including people who have not danced before. This beautiful, natural style was created by Luigi, who still teaches in New York well into his seventies. Class includes jazz combinations in the last 15 minutes of class. *Workout or dance clothing and suede soled jazz shoes preferred

Jill Tate graduated Spectrum School of Massage in summer of 2000. Jill enjoys the outdoors, yoga, hiking, fine wine, good food, and traveling. She loves taking on the task of rehabilitation through Deep Tissue and Myofascial Release. Jill also uses Relaxation and CranioSacral therapy in her massages.

She looks forward to growing her own business here at the Big Red Barn and meeting many of the students who attend classes.

Jill Tate now offers her excellent massage skills right downstairs from the studio. She will be working Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays on a flexible schedule. Her fee schedule includes one hour at $55.00, ½ hour at $30.00, and a block of three one-hour massages for $145.00. If you are lucky, you might schedule in your massage directly after a class.
