Shavasana Dear Wanderer…Dream!
Written by Bob Barta while on a yoga retreat in Leavenworth

Amongst pine needles, craggy rock, and dust…rocky trails and special times remembered…away from home and comfort zone…this Sleeping Lady looks down on me… small and vulnerable…as done ten thousand years before…

The heat of day draws sweat from face and flesh and presses me down against the earthen floor amongst the trees and path. I walk along the dusty ground ...stumble…and wander on. The sun is hot but pastel blue as on artist canvas…another day…my strength still strong…I carry a vision…my destiny. Insects bite my weary limbs, now but dim reflection of what they were when I was in the arms of youth. I yearn for drink and coolness…a shadow of comfort to ease my burning face.

I’m told this place…this Sleeping Lady…can offer me a key to unlock my own identity…a mirror into my private world. Go there…seek…find…and you will know just how it is inside your heart… I had to ask: Do others also search…do others also question…as I…or do I alone seek to know…to understand…to embrace! A tree limb strikes my face – a warrior in disguise no doubt to test my mettle now so cold…

In this place I feel a spirit…comes over me and moves me on…In this heat and harshness I feel a soft and gentle caress across my red and weary face…A Greater Force…God, Creator, Supreme of the Universe…nameless but for those who would provide a name to such.

My search is Shangri-La…yet I question, doubt, disbelieve…at least for now that such a place exists. My quest to find my “Place in the Sun”…my identity…the mirror into my very soul.

And here it was…all the time…I did not know! Here in this corner of the world…in this forest of tree and rock…in this room of quiet moment, reflection and peace…It came to me as though a voice had said: “Be still and know.”

I place my mat on floor…artificial platform between earth and wood I roll it out as done so many times before. I look around…just a peek…at others, some from years gone by. No, I am not alone…I do not walk this path as one. We are all seekers…all…a body of seekers. We are yogi! Namaste!
